ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

(Design Studio & Support Course/Tenure-track/One or more positions)

School of Architecture

The faculty, students and staff invite applicants for two full-time, nine month, tenure-track, Assistant/Associate Professor positions beginning in the fall semester of 2009. LSU is located in Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana, a rapidly growing metropolitan area that provides multiple opportunities for recreation, entertainment and choice of housing.  It has a newly invigorated downtown; with an award winning performing arts center, museums, restaurants, galleries, and parks close to campus and housing.

Required Qualifications:  Terminal degree in architecture and professional experience; evidence of, or the potential for, teaching effectiveness, scholarship, creativity, communications skills and collegiality.  Additional Qualifications Desired:  Ph.D.; professional licensure; extensive, quality, professional experience.  Responsibilities:  designs studio(s) at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; holds an additional lecture/seminar courses in the field of sustainability or the field of digital representation, depending on the position.

Syracuse University School of Architecture

 

Associate Dean

The Associate Dean partners with the Dean in developing the School’s academic and fiscal agendas. Responsibilities include faculty development and mentoring, as well as leadership of current programs in London, Florence, and New York City and the development of future international and domestic. An advanced degree in Architecture is required with significant experience in administration in architectural education or architectural practice. An annual research stipend is provided. Applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, a list of three references, and a portfolio or other examples of creative work.

 

Professor of Practice

Candidates should have an established professional practice and record of built work with emphasis on emerging technologies including digital design and fabrication, materials research, and/or building assemblies. The Professor of Practice will provide leadership in the ongoing evolution of the School’s approach to design research and practice. An advanced degree in Architecture is required. A renewable contract is offered with a reduced teaching load at the level of Professor or Associate Professor, initial set-up costs, and an annual research stipend. Applicants should submit a letter of interest which includes a statement of professional, pedagogical, and research interests and goals; curriculum vitae; a list of three references; and a portfolio or other examples of creative work.

 

Architectural Design

Tenure-track faculty members at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to teach design studios and core or elective courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as design thesis advising, beginning in fall 2009, are sought. Candidates must possess professional design experience and demonstrate a strong record of recognized research which may include built work, theoretical explorations, scholarship, publications, or exhibitions. A professional degree in architecture (M. Arch.) is required and professional registration is preferred. Research funding is available. The School is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one of three areas: building technology, sustainability, structures, material research/digital media including digital fabrication, 3-D modeling, animation/urbanism and landscape. Candidates with teaching experience should also submit sample syllabi and examples of student work.

Teach and Practice in Houston Texas

 

The Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture at the University of Houston is a design school focused on the process of making. The recently completed Burdette Keeland Design Exploration Center extends this tradition in both our architecture and industrial design programs. The city of Houston offers a unique urban environment in which to explore design practices at varying scales.

 

Design Studio Faculty

Two full-time, tenure-track studio teaching positions are open for applications from qualified designers.

 

Candidates should be qualified to teach upper level design studios and conduct lecture or seminar courses. Candidates must have a masters degree in architecture, professional design experience, and a history of competitive design awards and/or publications. Previous teaching experience and licensure is preferred. The College of Architecture recognizes design practice as a valid form of scholarship.

 

Interior Architecture

The College of Architecture is developing a new accredited degree program in Interior Architecture in association with its Architecture and Industrial Design programs.

 

The successful candidate will contribute to the definition of the program and its integration throughout the design studios. Candidates should be qualified to teach upper level design studios, integrate interior architecture design principles into the design curricula, and conduct lecture or seminar courses. Candidates must have a Masters degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, or Interior Design. Professional design experience, history of competitive design awards and/or publications, and previous teaching experience are preferred. The successful candidate must be able to become registered as an Interior Designer.

 

The College of Architecture recognizes

design practice as a valid form of scholarship.
