Was formed in 1993 to provide a voice for design professionals who previously had little say in the development of Philadelphia’s communities. PhilaNOMA is committed to enhancing the profession of architecture by promoting diversity in practice and by maintaining an active role in the education of aspiring designers.
Our organization also promotes environmental stewardship in Philadelphia and seeks to make an impact on urban communities through greater awareness and appreciation for architecture and design.

NOMAnash is one of NOMA’s youngest chapters and was formed in 2018 with the charge to advocate issues regarding Greater Nashville’s underrepresented in the architectural profession, to advocate for equity within legislation with the local government, to commit to the welfare of the community at large, and to be an inspiration and active participant in the education of local youth. As so eloquently spoken by Dr. Maya Angelou, “Each child belongs to all of us and they will bring us a tomorrow in direct relation to the responsibility we have shown to them.” NOMAnash embraces this responsibility and strives to have a remarkable impact in the city of Nashville and surrounding areas through the creation of inspiring programs and
educational opportunities. One such inspirational program unique to NOMAnash is the creation of the annual “NOMAnash The Coloring Book of Architecture”. NOMAnash’s mission is to work with the Metro Nashville Public School system to introduce and promote architecture to school age children (grades k-12). The books would include images/works by NOMA Nashville members. The purpose of this coloring book is to be a fun way to expose students to architecture and to spark interest in architecture as a rewarding and attainable career choice. NOMAnash has received overwhelming support for the coloring book and it has been perceived as a definite benefit to the prosperity and welfare of our community’s youth.
In addition to the coloring book, NOMAnash is constantly searching for opportunities to reach out to the Greater Nashville community by keeping members engaged in local programs and by hosting NOMAnash Project Pipeline Summer Camp. If you are interested in learning more about our chapter and our programs please contact us. We look forward to every opportunity to connect with you!
The New York Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects [NOMA] is an association comprised of architects, designers, and allied professionals involved in developing events and programming aimed at creating a more diverse and inclusive design industry. While there have been some successes garnered by minority architects + designers, a tremendous need still remains to ensure that the design of our communities and future design leaders more readily represent our multi-cultural society. As a result, our ongoing goal is to champion diversity within the design professions by promoting excellence, community engagement, and the professional development of our members.
Our group initially formed in 1970 as the New York Coalition of Black Architects [NYCOBA] and then later joined with NOMA in the fall of 1992 to become its New York Chapter. Our membership continues to grow and includes representatives from the fields of architecture, interior design, graphic design, landscape architecture, engineering, and construction throughout the metropolitan New York area.
nycobaNOMA supports the interests of professionals, educators and students engaged in the process of designing, regardless of their position in the long arc of their careers. The organization is committed to increasing the representation of minority architects in the profession by assisting interns in obtaining licensure, mentoring students and newly licensed architects and encouraging early outreach in secondary schools. nycobaNOMA supports the interests of those involved in designing from other disciplines, professions and businesses who share our commitment to advancing the value of design and our roles in it.
The Mission of NCNOMA is to support and encourage the growth of minority architects, interns, students and architectural businesses in North Carolina through education and awareness. The NC chapter of NOMA was founded in the 1990’s by architects that wanted to enhance the economic, political and social standing of minority architecture in NC through programming and community engagement.
